Does the SK hynix ADR (SKHY) pay the ₩20,000 dividend?

By GamnamuPublished 2026-11-06Updated 2026-11-06

Yes. Each SKHY share gets ₩2,000 before tax and fees, one-tenth of the ₩20,000 SK hynix will pay per common share for the third quarter of 2026. Citibank, the depositary, has set the ADS record date at Monday, Nov 30. The dollar amount and the pay date haven't been announced yet.

KRX dates are Seoul time, SKHY dates are New York time. "Within a month" means within one month of Nov 30. SK hynix hasn't named the exact day.

The board decided the dividend on Oct 28. We read the Korean filing on DART (receipt no. 20261028800045), the English version SK hynix filed with the SEC (Form 6-K) and Citibank's preliminary notice for SKHY. They agree.

Does SKHY pay dividends?

Yes: ₩2,000 per ADS before tax and fees this time, and SKHY has paid before. On Oct 7, 2026 it paid $0.027566 per ADS before tax. That's in Citibank's final notice for SK hynix's second-quarter dividend of ₩375 a share. Each ADS got ₩37.50, converted at ₩1,360.37 to the dollar. Korean shareholders were paid on Sept 30, a week earlier.

You'll see posts saying the ADR doesn't pay and only SK hynix's GDRs, listed in Luxembourg, do. The October payment shows otherwise. The July prospectus also says it plainly: each ADS is one-tenth of a common share, and Citibank pays ADS holders the cash dividends it receives on those shares, in dollars, after its fees.

How much does the SK hynix ADR pay?

₩2,000 per ADS before tax and fees, or the ₩20,000 dividend divided by 10. In dollars that's roughly $1.00 to $1.15 after 22% Korean tax, if the won trades between ₩1,350 and ₩1,550 (details below).

Half of the ₩20,000 is a special payment. SK hynix's shareholder-return disclosure on Oct 28 splits it into ₩10,000 from earnings and ₩10,000 from gains on its indirect investment in Kioxia (DART 20261028800040, 6-K). The company plans to pay most of the Kioxia gains out in two parts: this dividend and the one for the full year 2026, which the board will decide after the year's results.

Even the ₩10,000 earnings part is about 27 times the ₩375 paid for the second quarter (6-K, Aug 7). The filing puts the total payout at ₩14.10 trillion and the yield at 1.56%, based on the average KRX closing price in the week before the board meeting.

When we checked on Nov 6, dividend data pages such as TipRanks and StockAnalysis still showed only the second-quarter payment and put SKHY's yield at 0.02% or less. They haven't caught up.

SK hynix dividend in USD

At ₩1,450 to the dollar, ₩2,000 is $1.38 per ADS before tax, and about $1.07 after 22% Korean tax and the fee Citibank charged last time. The final figure depends on the exchange rate Citibank gets when it converts the won.

Two things come off. Last quarter Citibank's cash dividend fee was $0.0055 per ADS, well under the 5-cent cap in the prospectus fee table. Korean tax is withheld at 22.0% for non-residents, including local income tax, unless a tax treaty gives a lower rate. Treaty rates are generally between 5.0% and 16.5%, and you only get one if your tax residence is documented.

Last quarter, the net at 22% was $0.016001 per ADS. Holders taxed at lower rates got more, after a small "tax relief at source" processing fee.

Here's our arithmetic for this dividend at three exchange rates. It assumes 22% tax and the same $0.0055 fee. These are examples, not a forecast.

₩ per $1 Gross Net
₩1,350 $1.48 $1.15
₩1,450 $1.38 $1.07
₩1,550 $1.29 $1.00

Net means per ADS after 22% Korean tax and a $0.0055 fee. A lower treaty rate would leave you with more.

SKHY dividend date and ex-dividend date

The ADS record date is Monday, Nov 30, the last day to buy SKHY is Friday, Nov 27, and the ex-dividend date is Nov 30. The pay date isn't set. Last quarter, SKHY holders were paid a week after Korean shareholders.

US trades settle one business day after the trade (T+1), under the SEC rule adopted in 2023. A trade on Friday, Nov 27 settles on Monday, Nov 30. Nasdaq closes early at 1:00 p.m. ET that day, according to its holiday schedule.

The ex-dividend date is Nov 30 because, under T+1, it normally falls on the record date itself for an ordinary dividend (see this exchange rule filing at the SEC). Some search answers give Nov 27 for SKHY. That's the ex-dividend date for the Korean shares.

SK hynix ex-dividend date and last day to buy on KRX

For the Korean shares (000660), the last day to buy is Thursday, Nov 26, Seoul time, and the ex-dividend date is Friday, Nov 27. Korean trades settle two business days later (T+2), according to KRX's trading rules, so a Nov 26 trade settles on Nov 30. Shares bought on Nov 27 settle on Dec 1, too late. No Korean public holiday falls between Nov 26 and Nov 30.

From the US the timing is awkward. KRX's regular session on Nov 26 runs 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. KST, which is 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 25 to 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov 26 in New York (EST). Thursday is Thanksgiving, but that only closes US markets.

Still to be announced

We'll update this page when SK hynix sets its payment date or Citibank posts its final notice. The next fixed date is Nov 26, the last trading day for the Korean shares.
